Since I was a little girl, I’ve loved to both draw and to write creative stories. I have always found a way to work it into my teaching, although the drawing part atrophied a little with the advent of internet and no more need to draw images for flashcards. However, I’ve taken it up again! The stories and books I write are not only a creative outlet for me, but also a way of hooking my students and yours into WANTING to read in Spanish! Please reach out any time, as I love hearing what you think!

This is year 28 of teaching Spanish at a large public school in Omaha, Nebraska. I’ve taught every level from Spanish 1 to AP over the years, but currently teach Spanish 2 and IB Spanish. I’ve been National Board Certified since 2008 (shout out to you NBCTs!). I was Central States Teacher of the Year in 2021 and ACTFL Teacher of the Year finalist in 2022. Sponsoring Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica has proved to be one of the most impactful of my contributions in my career. Currently, I am the Region 3 Director and am happy to support you and your chapter in any way I can. I am also the current president of the Nebraska chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
In recent years, my students have begun asking for gender-inclusive language to refer to themselves and their non gender-conforming friends. I continue to educate myself in order to foster a classroom environment rooted in equity and justice.
